The excess is the amount of the claim that you will be responsible for. For example, if your policy has a €400 excess and you claimed for €1000 of damage, your insurers contribution would be €600.

Excesses will apply to accidental, fire, theft and malicious damage claims and also to windscreen claims.

You also have 2 types of excess on the policy, firstly a compulsory excess and secondly a voluntary excess. With a voluntary excess you can decide to pay more towards your own claim and as a result you will get a premium discount.

The excesses that apply to your policy are shown on your Schedule of Insurance.

If you use your car for work, this cover's the business.

If you use your car while you're working, rather than just driving it to work and back, you'll need business use cover.

We don't offer business use cover as standard, but it is something we provide *.

Business use cover can be taken out at the start of a policy, or added at any point by using your online account - MyBoxyMo. Once business use has been added, it will be shown on your insurance certificate.

Business use is restricted to driving for your business, or the business of your spouse/common law partner.

* Certain restrictions apply.

Adding business cover is likely to result in your premium rising. But, as there's no admin fee if you make the changes online, it's already saved you money.

Fully comprehensive

Car insurance comes in two basic types. The biggest difference between the two is that one protects you and your car in an accident, the other doesn't. But it's not quite that simple, so here's a quick overview of what's covered.

Comprehensive car insurance includes:

  • Repair or replacement of your car if it is damaged or stolen
  • Protection against injury to you or other people
  • Protection against damage to other peoples' cars and property
  • Windscreen repair or replacement
  • Cover if your car stereo is damaged or stolen

Third party fire and theft car insurance includes:

  • Protection against damage to other peoples' cars and property - but not your own
  • Protection against injury to other people
  • Repair or replacement of your car if it is stolen or damaged by fire

When choosing insurance boxymo.co.uk include both covers as standard. Full details of cover is detailed in our policy wording.
