Been promoted? Then you could be uninsured
Six in ten claimed to be driving without valid cover due to job title changes
Changed departments at work, been promoted or started a different job somewhere new? If so, there's a high possibility you're driving without valid insurance, a study has found.
Failure to notify a car insurer that you have a new job title could lead to the policy being invalid and any claims declined.
The occupation you provide is one of the factors taken into consideration by car insurance firms when setting premiums, and if this changes it could impact the cost of the policy. And if this happens to change it's the policyholder's responsibility to inform the insurer during the policy term.
But 61 per cent of driver who changed jobs mid-way thorough a policy said they had not told their provider about it.
When asked if changes to job title, description or occupation type invalidated their insurance, 41 per cent of motorists surveyed said no.
Alex Todd Brand Manager at BoxyMo commented "If your job title changes it is your responsibility to notify your insurance provider. Occupation is one of the factors taken into consideration by firms when setting premiums, because different jobs come with different inherent risks."
